2026 Main Residency Match

  • 53,373 registered applicants (record); 48,050 active with certified rank lists.
  • U.S. MD seniors: 93.5% PGY-1 match rate (20,934 active) — unchanged since 2024.
  • U.S. DO seniors: 93.2% PGY-1 match rate (8,503 active) — a record high.
  • 73.5% of U.S. MD seniors matched to one of their top-3 ranked programs.

2025–2026 medical school admissions

  • 54,699 applicants (+5.3% vs. 2024 — a rebound after three years of decline).
  • 23,440 matriculants; 100,723 total enrollment (record high).
  • Women: 57.2% of applicants, 55.0% of matriculants.
